Peonies.

Like most things social media has a lot to do with the ever growing love for these gorgeous frilly blooms. With their blousy heads, diverse colour range and multiple varieties—33 to be exact, they are more photogenic than most.

So where did peonies originate?

First discovered in China their petals were historically used for medicinal purposes such as pain relief for headaches and asthma. As early as the 1800’s they became a popular feature in European gardens, before being featured in homes as cut flowers.

Symbolising marriage and romance they make the perfect choice to feature in wedding bouquets and arrangements. Did you know peonies are also the flower traditionally gifted for 12th wedding anniversaries? What’s not to love.

When can I buy peonies?
Peony roses have one of the shortest seasons in the floral calendar. Usually starting to bud around April time- depending on the weather, you might see them through to June.

How to look after your peonies!

Once you receive your Peonies make sure you cut a centimetre or so off the bottom of each stem, at a 45 degree angle.

They need lots of fresh water and space so make sure your vase is big enough to let them breathe and change the water every second day.

Keep them away from direct sunlight, to make them last longer, as this will encourage your blooms to open much quicker. Place them somewhere cool for the best lifespan.
